Efficient dissipation of process heat

in critical industrial environments

ROBOX air-cooled coolers are designed for the controlled dissipation of process heat in the Power Generation, Oil & Gas, Chemical, and Food industries, without dependence on cooling water.

ROBOX air-cooled coolers are also available in accordance with the highest industry standards, API 661 / ISO 13706.

By utilizing ambient air instead of a complex and expensive plant cooling water system, these air-cooled coolers combine high thermal performance with maximum operational reliability and minimal maintenance requirements. Air-cooled coolers are used in sectors where reliability, efficiency, and continuity are essential, such as the process industry, energy, and offshore. Thanks to their robust construction and extensive configuration options, air-cooled units offer a future-proof cooling solution that seamlessly aligns with the highest technical requirements.

Air Cooled Heat Exchangers

Forced Draft

Air is actively blown through the heat exchanger block by fans. This ensures a stable airflow and reliable cooling performance, even under demanding operating conditions.

Air is actively blown through the heat exchanger block by fans for a stable airflow and reliable cooling performance. The air plenums, low-noise fans, and motors are mounted at the bottom of the tube bundles, allowing for better maintenance of the drive system and relatively easy fan replacement.

Induced Draft

Ideal for applications where optimal thermal performance and noise control are important.

The air plenums, low-noise fans, and motors are mounted at the top of the tube bundles. If desired, for better access to the drive for maintenance work, a drive shaft can be used so that the drive and motors are still mounted at the bottom. The fans and plenums are always mounted above the bundles for uniform air distribution and efficient heat dissipation.

Steam condensers for increasing efficiency in Power Generation
With limited adjustments to the cooler design, the cooler can be made suitable for cooling down residual heat behind a turbine (closed steam system) so that all residual vapor is cooled back before entering the boilers. Especially when cooling back with a continuous pressure below 1 bar absolute (vacuum range), this increases the total efficiency of the system. Options include air-cooled steam condensers that condense partially or fully, depending on the system in which the air-cooled condenser operates. Robox can assist you in maximizing the efficiency of your energy process.

Residual stream cooling in manure and carcass processing
In sewage treatment plants and carcass processing facilities, many by-products are created that cause fouling in the cooler. In this application, it is crucial that parts of the cooler are removable, that it can be periodically cleaned completely, and that large debris can be manually removed from the headers. It is also important that the headers feature a unique design to prevent solid residues from accumulating.

The use of forged plug type & cover plate headers for corrosive applications.
For Plug Type headers, Robox uses a unique forging as a replacement for the plate construction prescribed under API 661. The absence of longitudinal seams in the header design reduces the amount of non-destructive testing and thus the inspection workload. Headers are easier, faster, and of higher quality to manufacture from a forging. Because forged headers are more robust, they are also stronger and last longer. For corrosive processes, this means that corrosive products actually remain within the cooler, which increases safety. There is less chance of leakage because there is no corrosion on longitudinal seams, as these are absent in forged headers.

Application

– Coolers used in arctic regions (<-40°C) with cold winters
– Power plants, closed steam systems for power generation
– Coolers for highly fouling processes, including processes in carcass processing and sewage treatment
– Toxic, flammable, and corrosive gases and liquids, where leakage must be absolutely prevented (hydrogen, natural gas, gas streams with residual H2S, phosgene, crude oil, benzene, naphthalene, etc.)

“Gun barrel” header type for High Pressure Process Gas cooling
For high-pressure gas applications of 250+ bar, Robox can supply a “Gun barrel” header type consisting of a large tube, potentially equipped with extra plugs. A tubular manifold distributes the pressure evenly thanks to its classic round shape. A tubular manifold can sometimes be lighter and stronger than a classic welded plate type as recommended by API 661. Since the tube can be chosen as either a forging or a classic seamed tube, various options are possible depending on the application and process.

For high-pressure processes, this means that a forged header can sometimes be lighter in construction because a forged object is often stronger and can handle more pressure. This design can be advantageous at design pressures starting from 20 bar.
