Plug Flow Reactor

This reactor is designed and built for use in the pharmaceutical industry. The exothermic reaction required for the production of certain ingredients takes place within this reactor.

In this process, the residence time of the medium in the reactor is critical. Therefore, this reactor is designed so that this time can be adjusted by changing plungers in the header. These plungers determine the number of times the medium passes through the reactor, with a maximum of 25 passes. Additionally, by correctly positioning the plungers, a medium can first be heated or cooled before a subsequent medium initiates the reaction.

The plug-type header design is required due to the design pressure and temperature, and the fact that these plugs allow for the placement of plungers, injection nozzles, and static mixers. This ensures that mixing and the reaction occur under the correct conditions.

This concerns a PEP 141 / 1000 shell & tube plug-flow, plunger-type reactor made of Hastelloy, according to ASME VIII Div.1 and PED cat. IV/Mod.1
