This customer will cool hydrogen using cooling water with varying temperatures. The cooler will be installed on the roof of a container-based skid.
Due to the volume requirement and length restriction, it was a challenge to ensure that the velocity in and around the tubes remained high enough to guarantee heat transfer.
To guarantee the volume, we directed the hydrogen through the shell, which is unusual for hydrogen coolers. To increase the velocity in the tubes, U-tubes were chosen in combination with turbulators.
This is a shell & tube heat exchanger. A one-pass shell with U-tubes, TEMA type BEU. Entirely in SS316(L) according to PED cat. IV/Mod. H1, ASME VIII Div. 1, and TEMA R.
