Post Condenser

ClassificationLiquid/Gas Cooler (condenser). Shell & Tube, X-flow shell, removable U-bundle and removable bonnet
FeaturesFor a vacuum application, our client, a vacuum system builder, is supplying a skid to Spain. This skid requires a condenser to condense liquid from the process gas under vacuum (2 kPa). The post condenser is a liquid/gas condenser and uses cooling water (in the tubes) to cool the process gas and condense several components.

Post Condenser

Due to the vacuum (2 kPa), there is a high volume flow, and low pressure drop is crucial for the process.

Therefore, an X-flow shell was chosen, where the gas flow enters transverse to the shell and immediately exits the shell on the other side. Thanks to experience with vacuum processes and the ability to accurately simulate composite flows, it was possible to precisely determine at which pressure and temperatures condensation occurs, as well as in what quantity and composition. This is valuable information for the vacuum system designers regarding the selection of the pump and other components in the system. This allowed for the successful joint offering of an efficient and cost-effective design to the end customer.

The post condenser is a Shell & Tube heat exchanger. A cross-flow shell with a removable U-bundle and removable bonnet. TEMA type BXU 273/2850. Entirely in stainless steel according to PED cat. III/Mod. B1+F and ASME VIII Div. 1
